difference of cash games from a tournament 2008/03/11 10:42 Karma: 0
As I have already stated on my previous posting that I'm just newbie when it comes to online poker playing. I don't know where can I post this.

We all know that this two things involves money, but what does makes them different from the other?

A cash game is when you join in a table with as many chips as you want and play for as long or short as you want. You can keep buying chips if you run out.

A tournament has a buy-in so everyone sits down with the same number of chips, and when they are gone, you are out and cannot re-join.

Hope that helps!

In a cash game you sit down generally with chips equal to you buy-in, so say you could sit down with $10, $50 or $100. You can top these chips up anytime you're not involved in a hand and can stop playing whenever you like. So people come and go to a cash game table and it will keep running for as long as there are at least 2 players willing to play,

With a tournament you 'buy-in' for say $10 and then pay an entry fee (usually 10%). All the buy ins go into a prize pool which then distributed amongst the top x players. All players get a fixed number of chips. If you lose all your chips you get knocked out and the tournament continues until 1 player remains.

So, you guys are saying that the difference between these two are tournament are just short time games while the other one, you can do it anytime you want.

the other explanation's is that you can play as long as you have an opponent in the cash game and in the tournament, only one player must be left.

Thanks!

I know ill probably get flamed, but if you've wathced the color of money, the old dude (i forgot his name) sed that a guy made more money in the practice room than the guy who won the tournament.

Ok. Two differences. Practice room is like casual. Not as much stress. You dont have eyes looking at you or anything. Just you, your opponent, and a big pot of cash waiting for your wallet. On the other hand, tournaments have audiences.

I also think that playing in tournaments are harder becuase its important to play as best as you can, and people foten try too hard, and fail. miserably. I mean, if you do well in one tournament, youll have confidence for the next. If you have an epic fail, then youll be down in the dumps. In the practice room, if you lose in one game, youll make it back the next.
