Still, you showed up for one. That's better than a lot of people, as you have pointed out. The college actually figures that if you don't go, you don't reap the benefits, but that's not necessarily true and they do nothing to enforce it.
In the end, you are only screwing yourself in three ways:
1) you don't know where everything is, or a certain building, which can be gotten from a map anyways but it might be nice to know it from orientation (aka why you are there in the first place).
2) you don't meet a certain person (but more times than not you aren't going to become best friends with whoever is in your group). Trust me, you'll meet a lot of people without this orientation business.
3) you don't get the free stuff they might hand out. That's one less school spirit item/article of clothing. Don't worry: More will come.
