The latest All Africa Poker Open Champion has been crowned, a South African by the name of Darren 'kingkramer' Kramer. The All Africa Poker Open saw a turnout of 175 players including many of the very best South African players such as Ray Rahme, Chris Convery and the popular R + B singer Danny K.
The event was held at the MonteCasino Resort in Johannesburg an consisted of a gruelling weekend of play, culminating in an intense heads up battle between eventual winner Kramer and South Africa's very first poker millionaire, Christopher Convery. With his win, the 24-year old Cape Towner took the lion's share of the huge $500,000 prize pool and walked away with a cool $140, 575.
Kramer was by no means the favourite to win as the final table materialized. The chip stacks and seat assignments looked like this to start the final table:
Seat 1: Berrny Lengenfelder — 218,000 Seat 2: Melanie Banfield — 412,000 Seat 3: Danny K — 286,000 Seat 4: Anton Bertilsson — 960,000 Seat 5: Michael Holm — 637,000 Seat 6: Grant Nelson — 822,000 Seat 7: Chris Convery — 555,000 Seat 8: Darren Kramer — 488,000
Yet Kramer was able to fight his way back and despite heading into the heads up with half the number of chips as Convery, he proved nothing is ever for certain in poker and eventually swooped to victory with a straight.
Kramer began playing poker in 2026, his game of choice has always been Texas NL Hold 'em. He came 13th at 2026's Sun City Million Dollar King of Poker Tournament, and 20th place at Event 1 of the 2026 Aussie Millions. Although both respectable results, this is his first win at a major poker tournament.
