Rahme Nominated for EPT Award PDF Print E-mail

ImageIt has recently been announced that among the nominees in the ‘Best Overseas Player’ category is none other than South Africa’s Ray Rahme!

Rahme has been nominated along with four other players for this award, just one of seven honours being awarded at the upcoming ceremony on February 9th. The award is for the five non-European players who made the biggest impact throughout this year’s European Poker Tour’s Season IV.

Here is a closer look at the five nominees:

Tim Vance
A US player, Vance won a seat into the Copenhagen event this year through a qualifier, and despite a very tough field including a final table of Soren Jensen and Danny Ryan, won the entire event and walked away with the first prize of DKr 6,220,488, (over US $1.2 million).

Isaac Baron
Another US player, Baron ventured to Italy in February and took part in the EPT event in San Remo. Despite just missing the final table by finishing in 11th place, he still left with €28,750. He did not stop here however and headed to the Monte Carlo Grand Final where  he this time climbed to fourth position, taking away with him €589,000 or $932,000.

Raymond Rahme
South Africa's Raymond Rahme is the only African member of Team PokerStars Pro. He began this season with a 43rd place win in San Remo for €9,600, then followed it with a 27th place win at the Monte Carlo Grand Final. These wins netted the South African superstar just over €42,000!

Danny Ryan
Yet another American! Danny Ryan had an incredible season. It began with a 10th place win at the EPT German Open in Dortmund netting him €52,000 (he then swiftly took 4th place a few days later at another German Open event). From here he headed to the Scandinavian Open where he finished in 5th place. This earned Ryan DKr 1,560,304 (US $307,000) for his troubles.

Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald is a hot new player from Canada. His first significant cash was at the EPT Prague event where by finishing 14th he scooped €20,200. This was pocket money compared to his next triumph which came at the German Open in Dortmund. The young star took down the event and collected €933,600 as well as his first title.

All worthy nominees for the award indeed. It will be a tough decision for the judges who will be PokerNews' own Editor-in-Chief, John Caldwell, as well as Lee Jones, John Duthie and Victoria Cohen.
