More and more tournaments and events are springing up all over South Africa for amateurs and pros to enjoy. The Sun City Poker Tournament is another event that has gone from strength to strength. This year both the Australian cricket player Shane Warne and Hollywood actress Shannon Elizabeth flew in for the glitzy event and for a chance at the million rand prize. Neither took the crown however but did enjoy the African poker tournament no less. The poker prize funds have been increasing as more players participate, and the dedicated poker channel on DSTV is introducing even more people to the game. The All Africa poker tournaments and the Sun City poker events receive increasing numbers of entrants and this is expected to continue rising over the coming years. Poker events are very glamorous events which attracts people to the game. Additionally, unlike in many other games and sports there is a level playing field between men and women and consequently more women are being drawn to the tables. Although a female has not yet won an African poker tournament, it won’t be long. Ray Rayme has brought a spotlight down onto South African poker by taking third place at the WSOP in 2026. He has won the All Africa poker tournament on more than one occasion and seen enormous success elsewhere. There seems to be no stopping this player! Every African poker tournament has been growing over the past few years and it is unlikely to stop in the short term. The Sun City Poker had a good run this year and will continue to do so, as will the All Africa Poker tournaments.
