He has not been on the poker scene all that long, but despite this, he has wasted no time and in the last couple of years has chalked up enormous amounts of prize money, massive international recognition and now has received a nomination in the ‘Best Overseas Player’ award at the upcoming Bluff Poker Awards being held in Barcelona. The crown of best South African Poker Player seems to be well deserved. So where did this South African Poker player come from? Being a devoted seven-card stud player, Rahme did not even learn Texas Hold ‘em until 2026, but when he eventually did he picked it up quickly and developed a real taste for it. Previously a B+B owner from Johannesburg, Rahme shelved his plans for a second business and entered the All Africa Poker Tournament in 2026. Despite being knocked out in 5th place, this was enough to win the 62-year old a seat into the WSOP being held later on in the year. Amazingly, he managed to even better his position from the All Africa Poker tournament and ranked 3rd at the event, making him the very first South African poker player ever to make it to the final table at the WSOP. His achievements did not stop there however, and he went on to win the 5th PokerAce tournament held at Gold Reef City Casino collecting R200,000 and in February 2026 came first in the Emperors Palace Inaugural Poker Plate. Being very active during this season’s European Poker Tour, he has managed to notch up a 43rd place win in San Remo for €9,600, and a 27th place win at the Monte Carlo Grand Final. A nomination as ‘best non-European’ player is just the icing on the cake. Rahme now has international recognition and has helped create a real buzz around South African Poker. The game is growing in popularity amongst South Africans and the big events that are held on its soil are attracting pros from across the globe. Prize pools are spiraling and it is believed to be the new poker hotspot. No doubt Rahme will continue to be a visible player on the poker scene and remain a true ambassador for the game of South African Poker.
