 For the first time, and thanks to Bluff Magazine, South Africa now has an accurate and trustworthy ranking system for its burgeoninGmunity of poker players. Not only is the system used for achievement recognition and to provide an overall tournament performance rating to individuals, but it can also be used by players as a way to find sponsorship.
The information is derived from the results of tournaments with at least R500,000 in the overall prize pool played over the previous 2 years from that point. The rankings are updated every month. The tournaments from where the data is captured are therefore, All Africa Poker, SA Poker Open, Big Bluff, Sun City, Emerald Poker Series, Boardwalk Casino, Emperors Palace, Silver Star Tournaments and Poker Ace events.
Currently the top ten in the rankings looks like this:

The specifics of how the results are calculated are based upon those used by Bluff USA, albeit moderated to accommodate the smaller buy-ins and overall fields at South African events. By using the number of participants, the average buy-in (as most South African poker tournaments are re-buys) and a points allocation of the finishing position of the player, the rankings are thus developed.
