An inspection of your roofing materials consist of viewing, touching and testing the materials from either a ladder or by walking on the roof if it seems secure enough to do so. Some sunken areas or missing shingles will stand out; however, the age and status of the shingles overall gives some indication to the condition of the tar paper, wood underlay, and flashing around the chimneys and vents.
