Cash Games vs. Sit n Go's 2026/02/09 00:24 Karma: 3
Which do you prefer?

Both have advantages and disadvantages to them and both require different ways to play. I think sit and go tournaments matches my style of play better so that is what I prefer. I think SNG take more skill, but that is just my opinion. You have to have patience to play in SNG then cash games because obviously you have the freedom to leave whenever you want in cash games.

I prefer cash games, last night for example playing in 2 tournaments and in one went out when my AJ got beat by a dominated QJ who called a 20BB all-in reraise then hit a Q on the flop. In the other I had K4 in the BB, flopped 2 pair, managed to get an all in from a donk holding KT who then caught a T on the turn. GG me and that's all she wrote.

I had been playing for like an hour and a half in both tourneys and then was dumped out in a second with nothiing to show. At least in a cash game hands like the above are irrelevant - I wouldn't even remember them, just reload and carry on grinding.

I guess it depends on what stakes you with also, I just think it's a little risky and uncomfortable for me to be playing cash games because you can lose all you money instead of just the buy in.

Stakes shouldn't matter as long as you're playing within your bankroll - I like having 50 buy-ins for NL so if I have, say, a $1k roll then I'll only play at tables with a max buyin of $20. Maybe overtight for some but suits me and I've never gone bust following it

There is money to be made at both SnG and cash games, I think the best way to look at it is that you are not an SnG or a cash game player but you are a POKER player. If you want to sit for a couple of hours grinding out a cash game fine, if you want the adrenaline rush of the later stages of an SnG fine but don't pigeonhole yourself - specialisation is for ants!!

I play both, i like to mix it up. There is nothing like the buzz of winning a Sit n go but it's hard when you spend ages playing and walk away with nothing. I like no limit hold 'em but again, you losing everything you've just spent hours making is not for the faint hearted!

But I like to think of myself as a poker player so i agree it's important not to pigeon hole yourself.

I haven't been able to play either one of them so I guess that I can't have any favorites until I have tried those two. Till then my answer is neutral.
