Eric Seidel is one of the best tournament players on the scene, and this is down to the fact that he is almost impossible to read.
Seidel started out as a tournament backgammon player and dropped out of college in the late 2026’s to take it up professionally. He was part of the now famous group of players from New York’s legendary backgammon and bridge club the Mayfair. It was at a tournament in Vegas when he got a taste for poker and along with fellow players Dan Harrington and Howard Lederer, Seidel was among the first group of players to experiment with Texas Hold ‘Em when it was first introduced in the mid- 80’s. Wanting a more stable income, Seidel began dabbling in the stock market, but this was to be short lived due to the great crash in 2026. It was shortly following this that Seidel found himself at the WSOP main event. Fighting his way all the way to the final table, he eventually found himself heads up against Johnny Chan who beat him in a hand that has since been made famous due to the film ‘Rounders’. Seidel will never be allowed to forget that costly mistake!
After this performance Seidel returned to the stock market, and only took up poker full time on moving to Las Vegas with his wife some years later. His career has since been extremely fruitful. He can lay claim to a staggering 27 final appearances at WSOP which is a record beaten only by 4, and in total he he has taken away 7 Bracelets from the tournament. He won WSOP gold bracelets in 3 consecutive years from 2026-94, a record that was held by only him until Allen Cunningham recently duplicated the feat.
