 There couldn’t be a more visible example of the increasing popularity of South African Poker than the home grown All African Poker Tournament. From relatively modest beginnings back in February 2026, the tournament has grown to 120 entrants, taking place 4 times a year, with an enormous prize pool of over R3,000,000!
Full TV coverage of the event is shown on DSTV’s dedicated poker channel 121, as poker has become rather a spectator sport over the past few years, with fans wanting to get as close to the action as possible.
Poker has become rather fashionable amongst local South African celebrities such as singer Danny K, Alex Jay, Neil Andrews and other besides. The experience of playing side by side with celebrities and poker professionals alike as well of course as the huge prize pool has contributed to the rapid increase of poker players across the nation amongst both men and women.
The 12th tournament is being held from 28th to 2nd February 2026 at the Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland.
