 The inaugural South Africa Poker Open took place in February 2026. More than 100 pros, veterans and international online qualifiers headed off to the MonteCasion Resort in Johannesburg, South Africa to battle it out for a considerable chunk of the R2,000,000 prize pool and the prestigious tile of SA Poker Open Champion.
It was an American, Jamie Vilela who became the eventual winner after a grueling 8 hours of heads up play against one of South Africa’s best loved singers Danny K. The final 10 players in the competition came in the money so none of the final table left empty handed.
The 2026 tournament will be the finale event of the brand new South African Poker Festival, which takes place in February 2026. Hosted by Robert Williamson 111 and “Cowboy” Kenna James, the 5 day event will feature a 3 day fantasy camp, Seminars, demonstrations and question and answer sessions where you finally get to learn some of the secrets of the poker pros! The Poker Open will be a $3000 buy-in freezeout tournament, making it not only the biggest in African poker history but also the first internationally- recognized tournament held on African soil.
As always, the event will be filmed throughout so viewers can watch all the action and excitement, the tears and the successes from the comfort of their own home.
