I have just discovered backgammon after reading an article about it the other day. It is such a cool game and far more complex than I ever realised. Wish i'd discovered it sooner.

yeah very cool game - loads of poker players play it and some world class poker players are also world class backgammon players, look at Bill Robertie for example...

I played it loads as a kid. I was ok, but I always just put my winning down to luck because I never put 2 and 2 together! I flicked through a book the other day and discovered all the move i make are indeed the correct moves to make. If i want to take it to another level though i'm going to have to learn how to pip count.

I think i might be a similar position. i was good a kid. What's a pip count?

It's when you count how many moves it will take to get all of you pieces into the home.

I don't know that much about it myself, all I know is there's a lot of mental arithmetic involved. I gather it's easy once you know how but i'm having enough trouble getting to grips with working out pot odds for now!

I haven't able to play Backgammon. How can you play it? Can you give me some of the basic rules when playing?
